Use Gmail? Make It Cooler!

Google Mail LogoI use gmail and google apps exclusively for my email client. I find it exceptionally easy to use, and the best part is that it follows me everywhere!  But it’s ugly.  It’s not *that* bad, but they obviously focus more on speed and compatibility, which is actually a good thing.

Dark Gmail Theme from userstyles.orgSo what better thing to do than to overlay a couple ‘o megs of Javascript and other web trickery into Firefox that gives this great app the pretty face it deserves?  Enter one great Firefox Extension called Stylish that lets you “skin” pages from the browser, and the best skin I could find for gmail, and it not only looks great, but is more useful.  And it works fine even if you are already running the Better Gmail 2 Firefox Extension.  (You are, aren’t you?)  :)

I’m not actually sure how big the scripts total out to be, but these days, your machine won’t even notice.  Mine didn’t, and since I live in it all day with Google Apps, it has proven to be plenty stable.  Memory shouldn’t be a problem, especially if you are using these great tricks to free up memory, and make Firefox fasterThey *really* work.
